For much of man’s history on earth, he had two choices for getting around, either on foot or on the back of an animal (such as horses, mules, and woolly mammoths). Bicycles were developed to add another transportation option that multiplied human efficiency by a factor of approximately five.

The Past:
Cyclemania was a success.  No matter how big or how small the event,  from the very colorful fashion show, to the BMX Extravaganza downtown on State St., to the children’s events.  The City of Santa Barbara Traffic Solutions, BiCi Central, and the hundreds of volunteers who stepped up and put their community first, we thank you.  Go to the Cyclemania website: cyclemaynia.ning.com and check out all the cycle mania pics.  We are all looking forward to Cyclemania 2012.

The Future:
Locals Ride:  30 years ago a small group of bros got together (5 or 6), for a bike ride on the beach, in the sand, all the way to IV.  Jump forward 3 decades. We have grown to 1,000 strong.  Some people call it the Fiesta Ride, the Cruiser Ride, or the Annual Bike Ride. Whatever you call it, it is the bicycle event that welcomes everybody.  This has truly turned into a bicycle event to witness and experience.  We thank those original bros who started this ride.  I know they would be and are proud.  So come and honor this tradition with us on August 7, 12:00 pm, at the Dolphin Fountain.
