I started the psychic warrior shields series about 1975. It was after reading something by Joseph Cambell, about how a certain African tribe dealt with their dead. It went like this, when one died a tree was felled, all who knew him were invited to make some marks, cuts, paint, even place objects on the tree, as a way of completing their ‘conversation’ with him. When this was done the body was placed on the log and set afire, so the man and all the communications to him were transformed and re combined to disappear, sent on to the next world via the wind. This to me, is what I was looking for, an early impulse to combine materialism with divinity. ART was a vehicle for this communication. The ancient Egyptians believed that anything that was portrayed in art form went to the next world.
What is art? What is the purpose? Where does it come from? Art is firstly a form of communication, the picture is not the art, the force behind the image carries the art. Art is a wavelength and you add your communication to it. Sound is a wavelength, the words or music you add are the art. Its purpose is to communicate your ideas and those ideas come from another universe. L. Ron Hubbard calls this the “THETA” universe. Thought matter [ Ideas], thought energy, thought space, thought time, combined in an independent universe analogous to the material universe”. The particles if you will are our ideas, brought to us by our imagination. The imagination being the aspect of the mind which creates the future. It is the spirits way of impinging on the universe, the artist is commanding energy to become matter. Man is the only creature that makes art, Carl Andrea said, “ Man climbs a mountain because it is there, he creates art because it’s not there”.
True art delivers a silent message, a mystery dimly known but not yet in focus. When you listen to hear your own insights into the nature of your worlds and the worlds of others you become the messenger of your own myths both self created and forced upon you. If you are really good you can move away from it’s slow shadow and glimpse the mysteries of “ BEING” that lay beyond comprehension. Don’t let the concepts of your mind obscure your vision. Create from nothing.
